Radio Nottingham

I emailed Radio Nottingham back the other day and asked if they were interested in following me trying to get my book published. I've not heard anything since, do you think it was something I said.....?!

The Last Tango....

I went to my first Tango lesson today. When we got there, there was a man limbering up in the corner, which worried/confused me somewhat, was I in the right place or had the Tango become an Olympic sport? I wasn't quite sure.....

The room was packed and it looked ever so easy when the instructors did the demonstration. Then me and H paired up and decided quite quickly that we were better off doing it on own, so to speak, until we'd learnt the foot work.

It was a lot harder than it looked. For one, you couldn't see the instructor, so you were reliant on the person in front of you doing it right. Then the room was really packed, so you were forever bumping into people, as you twirled around.

I felt completely out of my comfort zone, but you know what, I really enjoyed myself - good thing really, as I have another five weeks of this!

I seem to be a little more motivated at the moment. I rebooked my balloon flight today - 22nd May, so hopefully that will be another task ticked off. Hopefully this will spur me on to complete more off my list - I'll let you know if it does!

The Things That You Do...

I did something extremely embarrassing on Friday and I wasn't even drunk. You have to understand, before you read any further, that I got a little carried away with the situation, got a little bit giddy when I heard. Let me explain further...

I watch The One Show most days - it usually ties in quite nicely with when we are sitting down for tea and well, a bit of background accompaniment, never hurt, did it? Anyway, I was quite happily watching Friday's episode, when right at the end of the show, they announced next weeks guests.

I was shocked, stunned, surprised and any other word I can think of, that begins with the letter S - Mr T was going to be one of their guests for the following week.

Fate, I thought, definitely fate and I grabbed my laptop and immediately sent an email off to the BBC, explaining about my list and my blog and how I had to, just had to meet him. I got the following reply.

Thank you for your email to The ONE Show regarding our guest Mr. T. Unfortunately, we cannot ask our guests for any special favours, as they are doing us one by gracing us with their presence! We are inundated with thousands of similar requests and we would do nothing else all day.The team would like to send their best wishes to you and your family, and wish you the best of luck with your list.We really appreciate you taking the time to contact us and we hope you enjoy the show. Tune in Monday to Friday at 7 o'clock on BBC One for The ONE Show.

So unfortunately my 'Jim'll Fix It' type approach didn't work! Oh well, I guess that task will stay uncompleted for a little while longer!

Save The Last Dance

I went out for a drink with my friend, H, last night, which is nothing unusual, we usually meet up on a regular basis. But last night, she did something remarkable - she inspired me. H is recovering from a broken heart and has decided to take control of her destiny, bugger the life she has left behind, she now wants a new one and has decided to throw herself into all manners of new hobbies and a more active social life. I must admit, I was a tad worried about her at one point, when she said she had taken up knitting, but thankfully she redeemed herself when she mentioned training for a 10k run.
So my friend's enthusiasm for a new life, has inspired me to book dance lessons and come next Thursday, I will be learning how to do the Tango and the Samba. If you are anywhere near Mapperley Plains, then please be aware that a learner dancer will be in training and by the way, did I mention, H will be coming too!

Every Cloud.....

Today has not been a good day. The shower decided to leak through the kitchen ceiling, we had a fixed penalty through the post for driving in a bus lane (points finger of blame to Mr M) and things are a little bleak at work. Then I came home and opened my emails. There in my In Box was an email from Radio Nottingham. Do you want to come and do another paper review they asked? Of course, I replied and instantly my mood changed. Sometimes it's the littlest things that make you smile......

The blog post with no title

Hello!

Yes, I know, nearly a week has gone by and I've only just found the time to blog once more.
Nothing is still happening in the old forty things world, other than I am close to finishing my book and really, all I am doing at the moment, is concentrating on finishing that and I will have a life after I finish it, honest (that's what I'm telling myself anyway!)
I met a friend in town today and thought I'd kill two birds with one stone, so to speak and see if I can take a picture of Caroline Smailes new paperback, Black Boxes, whilst I was there. Only I couldn't find it anywhere in Waterstones, so I came back a little deflated, after I had all these plans on how I was going to take the shot and win all those fabulous prizes - it wasn't meant to be, obviously :o(
For the rest of the weekend, I will be writing, but more importantly tonight, I will be celebrating Valentines Day with my husband. I hope whatever you do this weekend, you have a fabulous time!

It's Oh So Quiet!

Oh gosh, has it really been a week since I last posted? I really must get my finger out and post more often. Not that I have a lot to say at the moment. I've been mostly writing my novel and managed to complete the chapter that I was dreading, where something happens to my main character. I've been skirting around writing this for nearly two weeks, but finally I bit the bullet yesterday and did it! So I'm pleased that one's out the way.
No more completed tasks to report at the moment. I got four books from the BBC Top 100 list, so I will be reading those in due course and I also really need to rebook the balloon ride - I think you can start taking the flights from March (may also upgrade to a weekend pass to save me wasting days from work).
Apart from that, it's been another pants week - more redundancies, this time at hubbie's place of work and hubbie is one of the chosen ones, unless he can find another job at the same firm within 90 days. I also missed out on a trip to Leeds to see Caroline Smailes do a book reading, because of the weather, so all in all, not a good week.
So with recent events this week, I've decided that this year will be a 'credit crunch' task year and I will only be undertaking tasks that don't cost anything to do. Cross everything, that should mean another eight tasks will be completed this year!

Found!

Remember how I told you, I had lost this baby(points to the left) and that I couldn't think for the life of me, where it could have gone, or where it could possibly be hiding? Well, I think I've resolved the mystery!
When I last took my books back, the Librarian was adamant that I hadn't returned this book, but as I was getting books out of my bag on the floor, the librarian was checking them through and then putting them in a container under the counter, so I hadn't got a clue what I'd returned and had to take her word for it.
It's bugged me ever since, I hate losing stuff and today I've gone online to order some more books off my Top 100 list and low and behold on the items outstanding, War and Peace has disappeared off there! So I did return it after all and I'm not going mad, well at least not yet!

Happy New Year!

Well, it's been over a week since I last posted anything, so I've decided that being as it's a new month, February will also see a new me and I'm going to start by celebrating my new year all over again, wiping January out of my memory bank.
February's tasks that I've set for myself to complete are:-
1) Read 4 out of the BBC Top 100 Reads.
2) Rebook my balloon flight
3) Spend at least 1 hour per week learning to play chess
4) Spend at least 1 hour per week learning French
5) Write 10,000 words towards my novel
6) Write to TV companies to pitch a show based on my blog
7) Write to magazines/newspapers to pitch an idea on a column based around my blog
8) Start on my You Tube task
Loads of stuff planned for this month, to hopefully get me motivated and get me working towards adding some more ticks to my list this year. I'll keep you all posted on how I'm getting on!
